A brief discussion on the application of thermal conductive double-sided adhesive in the LED industry
Thermally conductive double-sided adhesive is currently widely used in the heat dissipation system of LED lighting lamps, but it has always been a bottleneck restricting the development of the LED lighting industry. How to solve the heat dissipation problem of power-type LED lighting systems through better thermal conductive materials, such as the use of thermal conductive graphite sheets, is the key to the further development of the LED lighting industry. The following briefly introduces the development and application of these two thermal conductive insulation sheets in the lighting industry. The traditional method is generally to increase the spacing between LEDs, natural convection heat dissipation, or to force heat dissipation by adding fans, water cooling and other equipment.

Compared with thermal double-sided Adhesive Tape, the traditional thermal heat dissipation solution has a more limited effect. The traditional method is generally to increase the spacing between LEDs, dissipate heat through natural convection, or force heat dissipation by adding fans, water cooling and other equipment. However, the above methods can only solve the problem of external heat dissipation of LEDs, and internal heat dissipation still depends on materials such as thermal insulation sheets. Thermal double-sided adhesive tape with good thermal conductivity and viscosity came into being. It can well dissipate the heat generated by LED chips in time, thereby reducing the possibility of chip aging. As the internal chips of LED lamps become more and more integrated, the chips will generate more heat per unit time. Thermal graphite sheets with better thermal conductivity and thinner volume have become a new choice for the LED industry to solve chip temperature.
However, with the gradual increase in market demand, thermal double-sided adhesive tape is also keeping pace with the times. At present, the industry can produce thermal double-sided adhesive tape with a thickness of less than 1mm. This is enough to allow power components to dissipate heat well in a smaller space, thereby avoiding the problem of solder melting and chip failure. For components with higher power, it is recommended to use thermal graphite sheets with higher breakdown temperature to ensure the normal operation of power LEDs. Of course, the choice of both thermally conductive insulating sheets should be made based on the actual circuit integration and the heat value generated per unit time.
